The burden of the pastor’s wife

Always misjudged and misunderstood
Often Left behind
Seldomly noticed
Moslty unheard
Constantly scrutinized

No right to have a voice, no right to complain, no right to an opinion, no right to make mistakes.
Everybody can get frustrated, have nervous breakdowns, get into physical fights, threaten to leave the church, misbehave, steal, cheat, get pregnant out of wedlock, abort, fornicate, even rebel, and get back into the good graces of the ministry.

But as the pastor’s wife, how dare you? Very often we are assimilated with the devil’s closest associate. After all, didn’t Adam eat the forbidden apple because of Eve?

As soon as our beloved pastor has a headache, all eyes are pointed to the wife.

As a pastor’s wife, it is always doomed if you do and doomed if you don’t. Many of us don’t quite know where we fit in, it’s even worse when you can’t preach or sing. Be ready to hear this often: What at all are you useful for in this ministry?

We often forget these were ordinary women who happened to fall in love first with a man. Now, because the man has a calling, they embraced it. God did not call them together.

Embracing the ministry means accepting that your marriage will never be like everyone else’s marriage. No romantic dates, vacations, get aways, birthdays or any kind of celebration for you, because all will and shall always be centered around THE MINISTRY.

In addition, while everyone has a pastor in the leader of the ministry, an outside voice, to confide in, vent to, explain tough situations, ask for advice and guidance and pray with, the pastor’s wife has no one. Because when the man of God comes home, he doesn’t want to be a pastor again. He wants to be normal, which is perfectly understandable.

So, have you stopped and asked yourself, then who does she go to for help? Who prays for her? Who gives her counsel? Or have you forgotten, that just like you, she is simply human?

Next time you see your pastor’s wife, be less judgemental. I can assure you, you won’t stand even one day in her shoes, because you have no idea the weight she must constantly carry.

Father, I pray today for any pastor’s wife at her breaking point. Father intervene, showcase your grace and help her through! In Jesus Name, Amen
